Picadillo Tacos

Taco Tuesday is a favorite around Zephyr Foods! Tacos are such a versatile way to try out different flavors and ingredients, and it's the perfect opportunity to let 1 Source ground beef shine in so many ways. 

This week, we cooked up some tacos with a Cuban flare. Picadillo is a traditional dish using ground beef, and these tacos are an easy way to give this twist a try.

We cooked up a bunch of picadillo beef and topped our tacos with quick-pickled red onions and some crumbled queso fresco. Try this one out for some Taco Tuesday fun!

Picadillo Tacos

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 lbs. 1 Source ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp. cumin
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1½ c. golden raisins, chopped
  • 48 green olives, chopped
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  1. In a medium skillet, over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions, peppers and garlic and sauté until onions are soft and almost translucent, about five minutes. Add ground beef and brown, crumbling with a spoon (about 8-10 minutes or until meat is browned and cooked through).
  2. Add cumin, oregano, cinnamon, sugar, tomato sauce, raisins and olives, and continue to cook until liquid reduces and Picadillo is thick. Salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Serve and enjoy! 
Note: Picadillo beef is also delicious over rice, in dumplings or empanadas, in quesadillas, or even in scrambled eggs!
