Philly Cheesesteak Joe
One of our favorite sandwiches is the classic Philly Cheesesteak. The tender steak and dripping cheese combine in a total mess of irresistible perfection. Having patronized both Geno's and Pat's in South Philly, our bar for the cheesesteak is high.  

In honor of Cheesesteak Day today, we decided to use 1 Source ground beef to pay tribute to this classic sandwich. Since 1 Source is steak, using it in this easy ground beef recipe ensured no sacrifice in quality or flavor. 

Once our ground beef, peppers and onions had a chance to mingle in the skillet, we stirred in a bit of cream cheese to make sure we had a cheesy, creamy mix of proper reverence. (Tip: use whipped cream cheese, which incorporates more easily than the block.) A slice of American cheese was the perfect finishing touch. We suggest serving these Joes on a hearty bun. We chose a slightly sweet challah roll from our neighbors at Stone Mill Bread Company.

  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • ½ small yellow onion, sliced
  • ½ medium red bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ medium yellow or green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. 1 Source ground beef
  • 1 tsp. seasoning salt
  • ½ - 1 tsp. black pepper
  • ½ c. whipped cream cheese
  • 4 slices white American cheese
  • 4 hearty rolls or buns
  1. In a medium skillet, over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions, peppers and garlic and sauté until onions are soft and almost translucent, about five minutes. Add ground beef and brown, crumbling with a spoon (about 8-10 minutes or until meat is browned and cooked through).
  2. Remove from heat and stir in whipped cream cheese until incorporated. 
  3. Pile onto your bun of choice and top with a slice of cheese. Enjoy!
