German Burger

If you're searching for the best things to cook with ground beef, it's hard to beat a burger cooked on a charcoal grill. And if you give 1 Source ground beef a try, we know you'll agree - it's simply the best ground beef for hamburgers.

For this German-inspired burger build, we threw together a warm cabbage and apple slaw (recipe below), and seasoned up the patties. 1 Source ground beef is so flavorful, all you need is a little salt and pepper on the top. Once we had beautifully fiery coals, the burgers went on the grill.

When the burgers were close to being done, we melted the cheese on top while they were still on the grill, giving it a little smoky kick, too. You can use your favorite cheese. We love a great sharp white cheddar, which was perfect for this occasion. Of course a good burger needs a good bun, and this one wasn't complete without a hearty pretzel bun. Get it nice and toasty right over the hot grill (it doesn't take long, so watch closely!)

We dressed our burger with some yellow mustard and piled the warm slaw on top. Give this twist a try the next time you're in the mood for a little adventure with your burger!

Ingredients
  • 2 Tbs. butter
  • 1 (10 oz.) package angel hair coleslaw
  • 2 gala apples, sliced into small sticks
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 Tbs. apple cider vinegar
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
Directions
  1. In a medium-sized skillet or Dutch oven, melt 2 Tbs. butter over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the cabbage, apples, onion, vinegar, salt and pepper. Sauté for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Don't stir too often - allow the cabbage and apples to form brown, caramelized bits, which are full of flavor!
  3. Sauté until the cabbage is soft and wilted.
  4. Keep slaw warm until ready to serve.
